ANIMATRIX TRAILER : April 29, 2003 - At times like these, a game journalist must wonder how he or she (in this case he, last time I checked) should go about honestly previewing a game; in this instance, Enter the Matrix. On the one hand, it's all I can do to keep the hype from the movie and the game from entering my brain like a Matrix Sentinel ripping into the Nebuchadnezzar. It's like I need a pair of lead earmuffs to stop the hype from seeding itself in my brain. The movie -- I mean the two movies -- that will quickly pounce on the public this May, and in the fall, are continuing to build in the public's consciousness like few projects have done in the past. Both seem to simply gain momentum from the mere existence of the other (not to mention the Animatrix trailer). And it's all falling into place. It's as if Infogrames and the Wachowski Brothers have foreseen the future, a prophesy that reads: Enter The Matrix will conquer all.

ANIMATRIX TRAILER : Or will it? Because of the other hand, for a guy like me, a guy who helps to produce hype on games he actually likes, Enter the Matrix is a troubling game. At the game's debut in Hollywood this winter, the unveiling was a pure piece of Hollywood production, glitter and hype. While I was wowed by the Animatrix trailer, I was un-moved by the early preview build. Usually, a game is either fun or not, and it's those games that find themselves in the middle that make it strangely interesting to cover. Enter The Matrix. Do I like it? I hate the feeling that I should like it -- that I'm supposed to like it -- and I despise the notion that it will sell because of the power of the movie. I hope that the game turns out well, and that it sells on the strength of its gameplay, and only its gameplay. So, what should I do? Does the game suck or rock? What does a preview of this monstrous game really mean at this point in time?

ANIMATRIX TRAILER : Clever marketing at work. Better to offer something new than rehashthe movie where you know how it is going to turn out. This is not necessarily a bad thing. I hate games that make youmemorize three and four button "combos" just to progress. The AIcharacters are kicking my ass while I am trying to think "was it leftright up punch or right left up punch?"Odd, I could see them just fine on the XBOX and PC versions. All thisdoes is show how much the PS2 version is going to lack. I want to seea review on other systems (like, for example, one that I own.)It's a fighting game. People don't want to interact with theirenvironment, they want to kick ass.All this would do is slow down frame rates. If you're playing anadventure game, then sure, load the rooms up with things to play with.Wait, I thought that that was Skye's, not only blatant lie of taking PSOback because he couldn't believe how hard it sucked, but that he'sactually playing it quite a bit online...being on any server with him,in my opinion, is the biggest letdown of the year...;)

ANIMATRIX TRAILER : I managed to get an immediate DL from the free UK server (bottom of thepage)...direct links to those and pretty much everything else trailerwise hereIt's not looking like a great year for films, but hopefully Matrix 2 and 3,this, and ROTK will make up for it.With these 3, I'd say it DOES look like a great year for film... :-)On Tue, 25 Mar 2003 21:28:37 +0100, Lukas Mariman had this to say:Well, I'm looking forward to seeing Bulletproof Monk! ... should begood for a laugh! Then of course there are two Matrix films, thefinal LotR and X2 and T3 as well (which I'll enjoy even if it is notintellectually stimulating) and we've had Solaris and Equilibrium andI'm really looking forward to Robota: Reign of Machines. I mentionedthis before and nobody commented. Come on, it is as close to on topicas a non-Blade Runner film can be...I saw the trailers a while ago. It definitely looks interesting. The robotsremind me a bit of those Lego Bionicles. They also look a lot like thebattle droids from the recent Star Wars movies. But since Doug Chiang isinvolved (he was the "director of concept design" in the recent SW movies)the similar look should be no surprise..?

ANIMATRIX TRAILER : Bullshit eh, here's the proof from Roadshows customer website (I'veremoved the pictures), which proves I'm right...asshole NEW Release This title will be released October 14th 2003 Australian Box Office: $33.5 million US Box Office: $280 million In the second chapter of the Matrix trilogy, Neo (KeanuReeves), Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne)continue to lead the revolt against the Machine Army.
