It didn't take very long for the Quake 3 engine to be beaten by thelikes of lithotech, Unreal, Serious and Tribes (and probably others I'veforgotten). Come to think of it, didn't Unreal Tournament come out beforeQ3? If it did, then Carmack's last engine was beaten before it hit thestreet."Quake" is an engine, "Doom3" is an engine, heck even "Wolf3D" was anengine. Quake 2 and Quake 3 and Doom 2 were not engines, they may have hadsome spruce ups... My point stands that the competition's engines areroughly about 3 years behind Carmack (since the Doom days).Funny, everyone else seems to think that Quake 3 is an engine (that plentyof games go to the trouble of saying they use on the back of their boxes).Anyway, I still don't understand you, the Quake 3 engine was bested beforeit came out, and has been bested many, many times since. I realise that, asan ID fanboy, you will have a difficult time stretching the limits of yourill-used mind around that concept. It will takelonger for people to finish the game if he does this as people will probablyend up playing over the same sequence several times until they get asatisfactory result i.e. more health or least amount of ammo used. Cheap trickthough.Looks great except for one annoying thing. Everything looks so cramped and tight. Very claustrophobic feeling. I just feel the smallish rooms and hallways might get a bit boring. Then again its only a sample of the game, there may be larger open areas and different settings like Mars waterfalls or rocky cliffs. And I hope to God there are some new and creative creatures (it kind of looked like it but nothing jawdropping) and WEAPONS. If they just have the standard chainsaw to pistol to shotgun to rocket launcher crap that'll really put a snoozer on the gameplay. DOOM 3 TRAILER : Fall gaming season approaches, and I downloaded this Doom 3 trailerfilm in AVI format. I've DL'ed it from two places and tried fourdifferent AVI players and only the audio plays (no video). Anyonesuccessfully seen this in AVI? I don't think it's my video card asWMP 7.0 and RealPlayer don't seem to think there's any video (theyshow their little "ambience" graphics while it's playing). Somethingfunky in the codec?--"Hard to have faith, ain't it, when you read too many books."Granny Weatherwax, "Carpe Jugulum" by Terry Pratchett-- borland.public.off-topic exists as a runoff for unwanted posts in thetechnical groups.
