Others may not. It would be about the difference between licensing a movie to play at a school fund-raiser, and licensing it to be played over TV, where any number of people could record it off the air.Seriously, it is my opinion that intellectual property rights are run amok, and the public is now in backlash (witness the MP3 phenomenon). I know I used to be pretty strict about letting other people borrow my CDs and record them, or my software. However, with the ridiculous industry position on the issue, suing the Linux DVD developers, Napster, MP3.com, and Diamond (to attempt to stop the Rio MP3 player), and the Metallica drummer bellyaching that people are treating their art like a commodity (as if printing hundreds of thousands of copies and merchandising them wasn't more "comoditizing" than someone sharing something they enjoy with a friend), my previous attitude simply no longer makes sense. It's to bad to, because I HAD bought several CDs based on the fact that I liked the electronic copy I had heard, and wanted the whole CD, not to mention the fact that I stopped counting CDs at 300. Well, they just stuck themselves in the back, as I am spending very little of my $$ of THEM any more, due to their STUPID, WAAYY overboard, attitude. The same goes with computers. Lately, my hardware $$ (including for printer, sound, and video card upgrades--over 500 bucks so far) have gone to those that support Linux and open source, and I have decided NOT to make a number of software purchases I would have otherwise made, because they don't offer both Linux and Windows versions. I have sent a number of e-mails to companies I would have otherwise supported, telling them as much, too.
