EQUILIBRIUM TRAILER : Because a cat falling 5 stories is all tensed up, waiting forimpact. By the time the cat has fallen 10 or 15 stories it hasrelaxed, and suffers far less. Mangler of metal. User of many grinding discs. Cut with an axe, beat to fit, paint to match. In article , Robert Bissett wrote:The cats from the lower floors didn't have enough time to right themselves andstabilize. A cat falling from a lesser height won't have time to dothat, and will likely hit the ground at a higher velocity than a catthat fell from a higher perch.Three reasons(at least)1. airflow through the cats whiskers inform it of relative motion andorientation2. If a cat is dropped from a window or other high and toweringplace, it will land on it's feet. But what if you attach a buttered piece ofbread, butter-side up to a cat's back and toss them both out the window? Willthe cat land on it's feet? Or will the butter splat on the ground? EQUILIBRIUM TRAILER : Answer:Even if you are too lazy to do the experiment yourself you should beable to deduce the obvious result. The laws of butterology demand that thebutter must hit the ground, and the equally strict laws of feline aerodynamicsdemand that the cat can not smash it's furry back. If the combined construct were toland, nature would have no way to resolve this paradox. Therefore it simplydoes notfall. That's right you clever mortal (well, as clever as a mortal canget), you have discovered the secret of antigravity! A buttered cat will, whenreleased, quickly move to a height where the forces of cat-twisting and butterrepulsion are in equilibrium. This equilibrium point can be modified by scrapingoff some of the butter, providing lift, or removing some of the cat's limbs, allowing descent. Most of the civilized species of the Universe already use thisprinciple to drive their ships while within a planetary system. The loud hummingheard by most sighters of UFOs is, in fact, the purring of several hundredtabbies. The one obvious danger is, of course, if the cats manage to eat the breadoff their backs they will instantly plummet. Of course the cats will land on theirfeet, EQUILIBRIUM TRAILER : If you are interested, you can go to Hensley's web site() and read the FAQ section. It will tell you howthe system does NOT work. I believe you (all new trailer buyers) are misslead by a dealer who "thinks he knows how it works". Maybe you can get yourmoney back from the dealer and save that waste of money. Particularly froma dealer who "does not know how it works"Beyond the debate of whether the Hensley works or not (actually no debate atall), I am amazed how some are willing to put thousands of dollars, and ourfamilies safety on a guy who does not understand anything but how to close adeal!!!I would agree with Mr Sinewe on some of his points, especially the one on putting your family's safety on the line based on salesman's 'hype'. Ultimately, it is always the consumers responsibility to find out all the information he/she can before buying anything signficant. These days, most salespeople _are_ woefully uninformed, or, _very_ biased based on the product/s they have to sell. EQUILIBRIUM TRAILER : Regarding hitches, they are not all equal, as I have recently found out. I've done some investigating of my own and have found that there are two hitches that seem to stand out, the Hensley Arrow, and the PullRite. Both have innovative designs and seem to stand apart from the conventional hitches sold by most dealers. The device that was installed on the van is called a "receiver". It accepts(most likely) 2 inch drawbars. Attached to the drawbar is, in the case of aClass II hitch without weight distribution capability, is the coupler ball towhich the trailer's coupler mounts. You will be using a Class III hitch. Onthe drawbar is mounted a "head", by welding or, in the case of the preferredadjustable head, by bolts. The coupler ball sits on top of the head. The"equalizer bars" attach at one end to the head either by tee shaped ends thatfit into the head, or by L shaped ends that fit into the head from thebottom. The other end of the equalizer bars attach to the trailer frame withchains attached to the end of the bars and connected to the trailer by"pullups" mounted on the "A" section of the trailer frame. By puttingtension on the ends of the equalizer bars with the chains, an upward twist,or torque, is put on the head, and this torque is transmitted to the towvehicle in such a way as to transmit some of the weight of the trailer to thefront axles of the tow vehicle. When you hitch up, you lower the trailer'scoupler on the ball, taking most of the weight off the jack, and lock thecoupler in place. Then you raise the coupler with the jack, lifting the backof the tow vehicle as well. Then, you attach the equalizer bars, insertingthem in the head, and attaching the chain to the pullups at the proper link(I'm not going to get into the method of determining the proper link here). Then, as you lower the jack, the equalizer bars become tensioned andequilibrium is reached as the trailer and tow vehicle are level. Unclear? Questions? Email back, will be happy to answer. Cartan
