GOOSENECK TRAILER : Apologies if this shows up twice; I am having fits with my regularnewsgroup service, so I am posting this via google. I've done a little checking. An owner is not required to register a farm trailer or farmsemitrailer that has a gross weight of 4,000 pounds or less. A vehicleowner my obtain a "FARM TRAILER" license plate for a farm trailer orfarm semitrailer with a gross of more than 4,000 pounds but not morethan 34,000 pounds. The fee for a "FARM TRAILER" license plate is$5.00 per year. A farm trailer or farm semitrailer with a "FARMTRAILER" license plate is exempt from the state inspection certificaterequirements. "FARM TRAILER" license plates may only be used on farmtrailers and farm semitrailers used exclusively to transport: As a farm trailer, it is fully legal. It can be up to 34k pounds GVWfor farm use. Therefore, as a farm trailer hauling hay from the fieldto the barn, or a few other options I could come up with, it isperfectly legal and only as dangerous as the driver. It can beregistered as such. I guess I goofed; it is registered as a homemade Farm Trailer. Itwould not be legal or safe, I agree, to load up and haul accrosscountry or down the freeway at 75 mph, but works as a farm trailer. So, Current sale price still $1750 OBO. Maury

"dennis shea" wrote in message ... You may want to check state law regarding "no brakes" on a trailer with 10,000 GVW of axles. In Texas, all tandem axle trailers require a title as well as any trailer over 4000# capacity. To get a title , one needs to present the vehicle to Dept of Public Safety for inspection of vehicle and documentation. Owner would need to replace axles with brake axles, which are expensive relative to the price of this unit. Not only is this trailer illegal, it is dangerous. Good work on making the clarification. To expand a little, if someone files for a farm tag but uses the vehicle for other commercial or recreational purposes, it is a third degree FELONY, with state prison time and heavy fine involved.

GOOSENECK TRAILER : I work in a trailer business and see customers wanting to get farm tags for motorcycle, equipment, or general cargo trailers; when I show them the FELONY warning for making a false statement, they typically come to their senses.
