HERO TRAILER : i consider underground any artist that isnt on a major label... many ive come in contact w/ consider it anything that makes fun of and spewsjealous rage at the mainstream...to me there is four different types of underground1)the not easily attainable, you gotta dig for it type shit2) music that has "underground values". music that is really made with art inmind (instead of entertainment.) keep in mind, that this includes major labelgroups. 3)then you got just basic "underground shit". indy stuff bobitto plays thatonly 10,000 people wille ver hear (regardless of it's cross over appeal).4)major label underground. this is shit like mop and freddie foxxx. it'sdefinitely not streaching bounderies but it's appeal is far from mainstream.later tonythis is basically how i feel, too. pretty good, for a blockhead :)as far as i'm concerned, you need more than one definition, cause it'sa relative thing. to a lot of people i know (mid-20's, black, urban,casual hip-hop fans), when they use the term 'underground', they meanmos, com, roots, et al. i'm talking about people who have no clue whoanticon, quannum, dilated, etc. are, and would laugh in your face ifyou tried to convince them that shit is dope. then you have your rmhh-type demographic, a lot of whom lump the okayplayer/'incense'collective in with the jigga's, ja rule's and snoop dogg's. it alldepends on your perspective. HERO TRAILER : Cynics were already taking shots at director/star Kevin Costner's film'The Postman' as it was in production and dubbed it 'Dirtworld', mocking itin reference to Costner's terrible and empty 1995 film 'Waterworld' aboutthe Earth consumed by melting glaciers eventually flooding most of theplanet. That film was very unusual, especially showing the characters withsoiled clothes and faces in a world full of water? In reality, 'ThePostman' is a rich and diversely entertaining film with a thunderousfrontier charge reminiscent of Costner's Oscar-winning 'Dances With Wolves'from 1990. Can comparisons be made to 'Dances With Wolves' and 'Waterworld'when describing 'The Postman'? Yes. In fairness, 'The Postman' should bejudged on its own merit and it has plenty of it. Based on the award winning science fiction novel by David Brin, 'ThePostman' takes places in the year 2013 when the combination of a deadlyplague and war have ravaged and destroyed the fabric of the United States turning the clock back a couple ofcenturies to the days of the pioneers. HERO TRAILER : Costner is a lone drifter traveling with his mule named Bill and thetwo of them stop at small towns and perform humourous antics for the folksof the community. At one encounter, Costner meets General Bethlehem (Will Patton), a brutal andHitler-like leader who even likes to paint like Hitler did and has taken itupon himself to be the new leader of the former United States and has anarmy of goons who follow him dressed in militia-like outfits for the purposeof inflicting brutality. General Bethlehem demands all men between the ages of 15 and 50 beturned over to him for the purpose of indoctrination into his army andCostner is a reluctant subject taken in a prisoner-like manner andeventually escapes and makes his way to another community. Before doing sohe finds an abandoned U.S. postal service truck lost in the forest where theskeleton of a postman still in uniform remains and a bag of mail is in hispossession. Costner takes the uniform and mail to the new community wherehe begins to build hope for the future and re-establishes the mail serviceand the days and historical references of the Pony Express are invoked. HERO TRAILER : Costner meets a beautiful young woman (Olivia Williams) who along withher husband asks him to father their child since her husband is infertileafter he contracts a virus. Costner finally agrees after some very friendlypersuasion. He also builds a loyal army of men and women who agree to bepostal carriers to face and abolish the naked aggression of General Bethlehem. I was overwhelmed by the beautiful scenery of 'The Postman' as it uses Capsule: After some unexplained apocalyptic war that destroyed society, a drifter is looking for a free meal. He pretends to be a postman from a newly reformed US Government and unintentionally makes himself a hero of mythic proportions. THE POSTMAN was torpedoed by what is perhaps the most disastrous film trailer in history. But Kevin Costner's film's worst fault is merely that it covers territory that has already been covered so many times before and uses a sensibility that would have worked better in the 60s than the 90s. Still, this is *not* the bad film that people are expecting it to be. Rating: 6 (0 to 10) +1 (-4 to +4)
