LORD OF THE RINGS TRAILERS : The expected quality of this film can be judged with some degree ofaccuracy from its trailers; the nature of the source material on whichit is based is largely irrelevant.I suppose one _could_ make such an assumption if one believed that thequality of a film is largely determined by the success and spectacularnature of its special effects or production values, the quality of thescript being largely irrelevant. However, I do not have any reason toconclude from your post that you are guilty of a cinematicPhilistinism this colossal.Rather, if one accepts that the quality of the script does have asignificant bearing on the quality of the film, it appears that youare assuming that having "The Lord of the Rings" as source materialdoes not make it more likely that the film's script will be a goodone, or that it does not open up a possibility, if it can do justiceto its source material, that the film may achieve greatness.

LORD OF THE RINGS TRAILERS : Hey, does anyone out there know if New Cinema will be including the cool newmovie trailer for The Lord of the Rings Trilogy on any upcoming DVDreleases? I checked out the Quicktime format version of it from this link:tmlIt takes at least several minutes to download if you are on DSL, and theydon't give you an option of saving the trailer to disc. But it is prettycool to look at. It would be even better in DVD form with Dolby Digital 5.1audio. I know New Line has been, by far, one of the best for includingmovie trailers in full 5.1 audio instead of the dopey Pro Logic crap moststudios will only provide. This one would be cool. Too bad the moviesthemselves are not coming out until Christmas 2001, 2002 and 2003.Seriously, the movie doesn't even come out for 18+ months! Who has anyidea of DVD will even exist by then?

LORD OF THE RINGS TRAILERS : Look around, a number of sites have turned up posting it so that you cando that. I also think Quicktime Pro lets you do it regardless."Table of contents" where? I investigated Apple Computer's website in theirQuicktime movie trailers section and then checked out for anything there on stuff regarding theteaser trailer. Maybe I'm overlooking something, but I didn't see anythingwhich indicated this movie trailer would be on any New Line Cinema DVDtitles as a bonus item. It would be pretty nice if it was. Kinda like the5 minute trailer for "Dinosaur" being on the two different "Tarzan"releases, and in full Dolby Digital 5.1 at that.I know the DVD for "The Fellowship of the Ring" won't even be availableuntil late Spring, 2002 by the earliest. That is if Director Peter Jacksonand New Line don't pull a George Lucas and hold the whole thing off untilall three movies have completed their theatrical run before any DVDs arereleased. If that happens, then it will be Summer 2004 before we get a boxset of all three films.

LORD OF THE RINGS TRAILERS : "The Fellowship of the Ring" isn't scheduled to hit commercial movietheaters until Christmas, 2001. "The Two Towers" follows in Christmas 2002and "The Return of the King" is slated for Christmas 2003. But in themeantime, New Line could develop some good advance buzz for this film byincluding the teaser trailer in full Dolby Digital 5.1 and 16X9 enhanced2.35:1 widescreen on a few of their upcoming DVD titles. I don't expect iton "Magnolia" or anything like that. But maybe a few throw away titles theymay be working on at present, such as "Next Friday," "Boiler Room," "Priceof Glory," and "Love and Basketball" might be good to include the teaser for"The Lord of the Rings Trilogy". I was fairly impressed by the high-resQuicktime trailer, and am pretty sure the thunderous sound effects and musicscore would translate very well into Dolby Digital 5.1 form on DVD.

LORD OF THE RINGS TRAILERS : P.S., if any movie trailer ever had 5.1 channel digital audio for it, or a70mm six-track Dolby Stereo version then it should have at least a 4.1 or5.1 track on the DVD. This 2.0 channel Dolby Pro-Logic stuff is total crap.It is only appropriate when the trailers were only mono or stereo in form. There are a lot of movie trailers out there that have been screwed up fortheir DVD versions because the film studios chose not to include their full5.1 or 70mm audio track on the DVD. Absolutely, unacceptably wrong. On Mon, 15 May 2000 00:39:45 -0500, "Bobby Henderson" wrotE:Yep. Not to mention non anamorphic widescreen trailers on anamorphicDVDs... Or even menus in 4/3 on same.On Mon, 15 May 2000 13:30:17 +0200, François Yves Le Gal wrote:You do realize that most movie trailers are made way, way before theaudio for the feature is mixed, don't you? Frequently, trailers aremade only in stereo, with temp sound effects and music lifted from thesoundtrack CD's of other movies. It's not a case of the studiosdeciding not to include the 5.1 mix, it's that a 5.1 mix doesn'texist.
