REESE TRAILER : Some attitude from a company that has "you can trust us" in their adds.Reese will not even agree to correct the mistakes in the instructions orcatalog. Lucky consumer - caught in the middle again! You would notbelieve the attitude at Stittsville trailers which is basically "ya, I liedbut too bad it will cost you". As a consumer how am I supposed to react?Anyone have any ideas? Can anyone suggest a better place to shop in Ottawa?Well, as I have never had any complaints myself after years of dealing withStittsville trailer all I can suggest is UHaul on Conventry. Used them as welland they are cheaper and good.--====================================== =======================Boundless power to create. Anytime. Anywhere. None of this sounds like any sort ofdefect.

Lets just say that it is a little bitmore than that (the trim was only one issue), you have to cut away otherparts of the vehicle to make the hitch fit. You can't really add thoseparts back if you take the hitch off.My main complaint is that Stittsville Trailers did not make it clear upfront, in fact they repeated several times that all that was required was tobolt the hitch on. Assuming they have installed hitches before I mustassume that they intended to mislead me.However, if I assume they were ignorant of the installation details (hard tovisualize since they install these products every day), then I would sayReese is at fault because their catalog and instruction sheet does not say Ineed to cut away at my vehicle (In which case the dealer would have noproblem returning the product). Even if the instructions did say I neededto modify my car then both the dealer and I would not have known until weopened the instructions.

REESE TRAILER : Given that the product is not what I was told it would be, I assumed that Icould return it without cost to me. However, the dealer and Reese have setthemselves up so that the consumer has no way out. Reese says the dealer isresponsible to decide if there is a defect. Yet, the dealer says Reese willcharge them a return fee unless Reese agrees there is a defect and does notwant to incur that cost. The issue is between the dealer and Reese... I just want my money back so Ican start over with a dealer who cares about their customers and amanufacturer that stands behind what they advertise.Your last statement suggests that your "beef" is not with Reese, but with the selling dealer. My 2000 Z24 had to have the muffler shroud cut and the installing dealer had to work in very close tolerances, but the hitch fits exactly as its suppose to.

REESE TRAILER : Since we are reading you're tirade on the internet, why did you not do a bit of research with your browser to ascertain which company offered the best item for your needs. Its the old axiom, Buyer Beware. You hit the nail on the head. I did do research on the web. I asked thedealer. I called the company and asked up front. There was never anyindication that I would need to do these modifications. As a consumer, I had no way to know about these issues before attempting toinstall the product. There should be no issue returning it since it is notwhat I wanted in the first place. I am saying that between Resse and Stittsville trailers they should haveprovided this information up front or be willing to take the product back. If I draw an analogy to your case, the shroud was there for a reason, presumably to protect other parts of the car from being exposed to the heatfrom the muffler. Now suppose you have problems with heat causing anotherproblem to another component on your car, who will you turn to? I wouldguess that you voided the warranty on your car so the car dealer will wantnothing to do with you...and I can not see the hitch company picking up thetab. So, you made a choice to take that risk. I made it clear up front tothe dealer that I was not willing to take that risk.

REESE TRAILER : I find it funny that you object to my warning. You said it yourself, buyer beware. Take away what you want from this, I am telling you whathappened. Maybe someone else will not be sucked in to this issue as I was. My advise to anyone else is that they should stick to reputable dealersand have them show you that the product will fit before handing over yourmoney. This will be my last post, since I believe I got the warning out. Goodluck fellow consumers!E."Manny Pinsky" wrote in message...No doubt about it, you are paranoid. GM is not going to void any warranty because I removed, or had to remove 25% of a heat shield. On inspection prior to the removal of said shield, I found there was no plastic near by and there was plenty of clearance. Never confuse Warranty with neglect. I've been getting extended warranty from the "big 3" for years. Its attitude and not how hard you can scream.
