THE RING TRAILER : For the knot at the end you are tying the horse too, I likecrochet chain knots also called trailer hitch knots. Take a*loop* of rope and put it through the ring (loop of tire tube,trailer tie ring) or around the pole, adjust until you have asmall loop through which you will pull the next loop, and thepart going to the horse is the right length (or a tad short, asthis knot tends to end up feeding a bit more rope to the horsewhen it is tight). Then pull a small loop of the free end of therope through the first loop, and pull on the part going to thehorse to tighten. Then make another small loop in the free endof the rope and pass it around the standing part and pull through(going around the standing part is critical to making this aknot). Keep on pulling up excess rope in a chain of pullthroughs if necessary to keep the rope off the ground. THE RING TRAILER : This knot is much easier to undo should a horse pull back becausethe knot is more distributed around whatever it's tied to(because the rope goes around twice, since you passed a *loop*around, not just an end). It is only a problem to loosen if youtied to a narrow ring (trailer tie ring) and the horse reallysets back.The reason this is a good knot to use in a trailer is that younever feed the end of the rope through the trailer tie. In anemergency unloading situation, when you untie this knot you areleft holding the rope that goes to the horse and you do not haveto let go of the rope to pass it through the ring to unload. Ifyou have a horse that is attempting to bolt out of the traileryou may lose control of the horse or lose hold of the rope whiletrying to feed the free end back through the loop. Since youdon't have to do that when you untie this knot, you can keepbetter control of the horse and have a better chance of holdingon to the rope if the horse is panicing and bolting back out ofthe trailer.
