VIDEO GAME TRAILERS : Don't know the amount, but recall that it consisted of several tractor-trailersfull, and that the trailers were buried along with the carts. Location? NewMexico desert. When were they dumped? 1983 or 1984, when it was obvious thattoo many carts were produced... and they were dumped because apparently therewere financial benefits from rendering product unfit for sale, as opposed toslashing prices and selling through clearance channels.Never heard of this brouhaha, and if I had, it wouldn't have been a surprise. Codes for video games have always been bizarre and complex, and prone togrievous error. I doubt Nintendo would have done this on purpose, becauseNintendo's big on keeping their goodwill, and a cheap money making gimmick likethat would have backfired.I first heard about the Konami code from either Nintendo Fun Club News(predecessor to Nintendo Power) or a pre-EGM game magazine, like ElectronicGame Player or the US National Video Game Team Buyer's Guide. It was used inmore than just the NES games listed- SNES and Game Boy games used it... theSNES especially, with variants using the L & R "shoulder" buttons instead of L& R on the control pad. My favorite use was in 3D Worldrunner for NES- theKonami code produced a little message that said "I am not Konani" (sic)-considering how early 3D Worldrunner was released in the US, this indicates theKonami code was a well-known cliche in Japan for even longer. VIDEO GAME TRAILERS : For NES games, I first learned of the codes through the game magazines around1986- Electronic Game Player, etc. The majority of my codes later came fromElectronic Gaming Monthly. First heard about the ZELDA code in the Legend ofZelda issue of Nintendo Fun Club News.Atari Age was probably the first place I learned of "secrets" in Atari games-also gleaned them from magazines like Electronic Games, Joystik and Blip. Alot of the "how-to-beat" books in the library were helpful. The Adventureeaster egg, I believe, I first learned of in Family Computing magazine. Othercodes/cheats I learned- the double-shot cheat in Space Invaders, shooting thesnake-things in Vanguard and docking with the debris to score as if one hadn'tshot them, the exploitable bugs in Combat- all picked up from theaforementioned magazines and books. The most important way to cheat on theAtari- "frying" the console by jiggling the power button- seems to have beendiscovered independently by everyone- my friend and I did it as a child, neverhaving read about it. VIDEO GAME TRAILERS : Besides all the vaporware?Rumors went around my school about every hot kid's property becoming a 2600game- Voltron, Transformers, etc. For the NES, the overall rumor that the NESwas the vanguard in a big Nintendo invasion that would replace VCRs, computers, telephones, etc... Made it into local papers in a listing of semi-finalists at the Nintendo WorldChampionships...Atari 2600- Combat (pack-in), Chopper Command (bought)NES- Duck Hunt and Gyromite (pack-ins), Super Mario Bros. As it is now, I have a game room with about 10 games in it,I have about 10 more in my living room, 1 in the guest bedroom, andthe rest in the garage (which basically has NO free space rightnow.) I'm curious if there is anybody who has more games storedin their home (I'm sure there is) and how they did it. I used tohave self-storage spaces (and can always rent some again,) but itwould be nice to have them all here somehow. I've toyed with theidea of getting some sort of shed, but I almost think some sort oflarger, detached garage would be cool (Kind of like the oneCameron's father stores all his classic cars in in Ferris Bueller'sDay Off) as a game room. VIDEO GAME TRAILERS : Anyways, it would be cool if people could post any novelideas for storing games, and any costs involved (i.e the cost ofbuilding a Ferris-Bueller's Day Off style garage) If this is offtopic, feel free to email me.Joe ---------------------------------------- ----------------------------Joseph J. Welser Design Engineer -- Crystal Semiconductor CorporationPh.D. Student in E.E. -- University of Texas at Austin Work: P.O. Box 17847; Austin, TX 78760----------------------------------- -------------------------------To build a garage like in Ferris Bueller's Day off would cost you around$75,000 to$100,000 because of the store front glass walls that he had in it. Howeveryou couldbuild a 5000 sq ft building for around $25,000 which would probably last youarounda year to fill up if you are like me. Here is the cheapest way out that Ihave found.Go buy 40 ft tractor trailers and start filling them up. A good 40 fttrailer for storagewill cost you around $2000.00.You can line them up down each wall and have a nice isle down the middle. Here is a rule of thumb no matter how much space you have it is neverenough.I have a big shed (full) house (full) storage (full) 40 ft trailer (full)and am about tobuy another 40 ft trailer I am sure it will be full soon also. The crazy thing about this is when I built my shed 3 years ago I said thatwill be moreroom than I will ever need. It was more room than I needed for about 2weeks.
